March & the Illinois Trip

So March marked a very interesting month for Rusty and me. We grieved for the loss of Rusty’s grandfather. Rusty traveled to California for a week and half and I stayed in Boise to work and watch the Buddy. It gave him a great opportunity to be with his family. He played with his nephews and nieces and even went to Escape to Witch Mountain.

I left on March 18th for Chicago, Illinois to attend the William Scholl’s Podiatric Medicine Advisor Retreat. I arrived in Chicago and went to lunch with a work contact that I had wanted to meet in person for over three years. Lori Grogg and I went to a Thai restaurant she knew and caught up on all of the excitement going on in our lives.

She dropped me off at my hotel, The Deer Path Inn, in Lake Forest, IL. It is an old rustic hotel. I relaxed for the rest of the day until I made it to the evening dessert and greet hosted by the college. I would have to say that I have never had cantaloupe dipped in chocolate but, now I certainly will add it to my diet. Tasty. The next day we were kept pretty busy with the tours and the workshops. That evening they had dinner ready for us. A Tour of Italy, five course meal. First we had Prosciutto and olives, then, we had sardines in fennel sauce. Third was a risotto and rabbit, fourth was the main course of Kobe beef, they then had Tiramisu for dessert. I can honestly say that we were wined and dined. Mandy Meinhardt the leader of our group said if you go home hungry from Advisor retreat it’s your own fault. She wasn’t kidding.

Friday, instead of heading home like the rest of my colleagues I took my first train to Mattoon, IL to see Cody, Adrien, and little Baylee. The train was on time and I had a great time hanging with them. Saturday they took me to see Cody’s helicopter he flies and then to lunch. Sunday we went to a pond with Cody and Adrien’s new neighbors and fished most of the afternoon. Both Adrien and I were tragically skunked but, both the boys caught a good number of fish. We ended up BBQ’ing some hamburgers and frying the fish. Very tasty. I think I gained like ten pounds that weekend. Adrien also introduced me to my new cheese love affair. White Cheddar Cheetoes they are the best. Monday, I rode the train back to Chicago, caught the subway to O’Hare International Airport and flew from Chicago to Denver and then home to Boise. The long day of travel was totally worth the visit with my family.
